One World, One Humanity

Is there power in writing? Can writers bring social change & change the world? #Writing

#Writing is a passion for many in the world. In my definition of #writing, I would like to make it more broad-based as including anyone who writes on any medium: social media (including tweets), print and television (includes journalists),  bloggers, content-writers of portals/ads, writers of books/journals etc.

Yes, writers wield the power of the pen/the keyboard/the touchscreen! They influence thoughts, beliefs and indeed, life itself.

Not just self-help and inspirational books which change people's lives considerably, but every such article which reports ills and injustices in society, or every blog or tweet which appeals to do good for humanity-spreads optimism; gives ideas for a safer, better world; explains fast-paced innovations; simplifies financial jargons; exposes corruption/ills; arises people to do more for the state, nation and world and makes life simpler, definitely changes the world for the better by making people more informed, aware, sensitive.

STRESS ON SOCIAL CHANGE:

The greatest duty of writers, whether they realise they are awarely fulfilling it or not, is bringing about social change. If one thinks a bit deeply, it is not difficult to understand how even a single tweet, a single article, a single book brings social change.

Ultimately, considering every topic in the world such as related to environment, politics, war, hunger, education, culture, finance, science, technology- just any topic under the sun, has ultimate bearing upon SOCIETY.

Human beings live together as societies, aiming to better themselves and their way of life always. Indeed, that is what takes human beings ahead- from early man to settled life- agricultural, industrial, medical, technological, space and information revolutions. Writing has been a way to integrate them, spread radical ideas (liberty, fraternity, equality, technological changes etc.) and influence minds.

People who have recorded their thoughts, beliefs, inventions have changed the course of humanity. Recently, it has been found that Christopher Columbus did not discover America, rather just because he recorded the journey in writing, credit is given to him and not to the two Spanish brothers who actually steered the ships and discovered it! This shows the power of #writing....to write to record for posterity has made Columbus eternal!

Writers write their deepest fears, their radical thoughts, their careful observations about life. What normal people miss in day-to-day life, writers observe those. Their sensitive, beautiful minds can think of the impossible, the surreal and of things which would probably come a century later to change society. Also, they write of bare problems in society today- hunger, malnutrition, prisoners of war, corruption, murders, hate crime- all of which make deep dent in people who normally are just happy going about their lives- 9 to 5 jobs, home, kids, weekend outing- not caring of ills or turning a blind eye to problems of society. Several such people then take action for a better society, however small such act may be.

Truly, inspiring people to achieve the right situation for society is a great service done by writers. In this sense, Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Bhagat Singh were phenomenal writers- their writings brought forward millions to fight the British. Today, Kalam, Malala, Paulo Coelho and thousands more are inspiring people to do more- for the self, nation, world. Many write with objective to inspire, yet many through their act of passionate writing itself, inspire!

Had there been no writers, there would also be no change, no flux, no dissemination of knowledge, no stirring of the soul by spread of philosophies and learnings about life. Humans would be zombies, for nothing would be there to stimulate them. But thanks to writers and #writing, we have so much food for thought, our brains evolve as they think more and creatively and future generations of human beings become more evolved- though I cannot say they become more oriented towards goodness or rationality- else we would not have had so much extremism, terrorism, hatred, racial and ethnic disparity and so on.

Yet, again, writers are those people who bring such issues into debate and discussion within human society. They bring perspectives none may have thought. Creative solutions to stop spreading venom by man against man, are often found in books, articles, blogs. The best thing is- the more people write about positive feelings- love, brotherhood, unity, enthusiasm, optimism- the more the sparks of goodness spread. That is why as world citizens, we must share the good and shun the bad- it collectively raises humanity to higher levels. And writers as original thinkers and believers, who can express the depths of their souls, stir our thinking, entertain us, educate us and simply make us FEEL more, LIVE more.

CONCLUSION:

#Writing has the greatest power to change the world. Writers are God-sent gifts to the world, who enrich the world and influence denizens.

My only hope is, may the tribe of writers spreading good, unifying thoughts grow more, trumping those writing to spread terror, hate, communalism, violence, by leaps and bounds.

In this way we can create "ONE WORLD, ONE HUMANITY", where all live harmoniously, respecting life and rights of the other, helping the downtrodden uplift themselves, eradicating human ills like poverty, hunger, illiteracy, corruption etc. forever from the face of the earth and in time of "Beginning of End of the Earth" due to #ClimateChange, spreading spirituality, balance of man and nature- which will ultimately help mankind successfully survive and thrive.

    1. Yes ROG! U r absolutely right! That America, as it stands today since over a century- tall & prosperous- has actually become so by its colonisers/occupiers annihilating its original indigenous tribes from face of the earth is indeed shocking, sad, unbelievable for those who try to think deeper....!

  4. Agree with Roger on Columbus - very controversial. No Spaniard "discovered" the Americas either. Unfortunately it is the victorious that record the history though.

  6. Awesome post Amrita.. It is a fact that writers can bring social changes if they write accordingly, but then if they run by earning huge money, then they usually won't prefer to bring any changes...

  10. Writers can bring many changes in the social life. A pen is very powerful than a sword.
